There are 3 current Chartiers Valley School Board Candidates that wish to raise your taxes yearly and continue the failures within the Chartiers Valley School District. Lisa Trainor, Megan Sexton and Mitch Montani are essentially running on "we must raise taxes to save our district" campaign. The 3 current members have voted to increase taxes every year that they have been on the Chartiers Valley School Board and now are up for re-election. Their argument for tax increases is simply that CV has the lowest millage compared to surrounding districts. They are Correct! The Chartiers Valley School District is in fact lower than Mt. Lebanon, South Fayette and Upper St. Clair - by a lot! So why are they constantly trying to compare Chartiers Valley to Mt. Lebanon, South Fayette or Upper St. Clair? Maybe because those three districts are ranked in the top 10!?

Contrary to popular belief, the Chartiers Valley School District hasn't ranked in the Top 10 in over 25 years! The closest we come in recent years was in 2015, and we only ranked 35th. Although we all want our school district to be ranked in the top 10, we chose to live here because its affordable. We have/had a good school district AND have always had lower taxes! But can we ever be in the top 10?

Lets look at 2 other neighboring school districts - West Allegheny and Montour School Districts. West Allegheny is ranked #12, and Montour holds the #14 position. Did you know that their millage is lower than Chartiers Valley? CV's millage is currently 20.19 mills, West Allegheny's is 18.51 mills and Montour is 17.96 mills. So, it is possible to improve our school district while not raising taxes? Absolutely!

Trainor, Sexton and Montani were in the majority on the school board up until December 2023 and have always voted for the status quo - higher taxes and lower performance. Their "Leadership" as part of the majority on the school board is what has led us to where we are now. The budget has grown out of control and the District's ranking has fallen every year that they have been on the board. Even with 7 years of tax increases (2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023), the District's ranking has declined almost every year. We are now ranked #52. Although the District does have some financial issues, it is clear that the problem with our rankings is not one that higher taxes will solve. The problem has been a lack of leadership, lack of curriclum and lack of accountability.

The new Chartiers Valley Superintendent (that these 3 voted against) has committed to having CV in the top 10 within 3 years! Many believe that is achievable. The only plan or financing these 3 know is how to raise your taxes. The time now is for change and to vote them out!
